Christian Li repeatedly seeks the help of hackers who stole $49.5 million from Infini. As part of a fresh attempt to find the stolen money, Li presented to the hacker a reward of 20% plus protected status.
Through a blockchain movement, Li sent 0.1 ETH to confirm communication with the cybercriminal. Infini offered praise to the hacker for discovering their weak security framework in the transaction note. Li submitted a white-hat deal by offering to give 20% of stolen funds as a reward and to avoid filing charges if the rest is returned.
Infini Contacts Hacker Again via Blockchain
For the second time Infini tried to reach out to the hacker through blockchain communication. Infini initiated their response on February 24 by warning the hacker they were tracking the stolen funds while preparing to freeze them. The hacker had 48 hours to reply before Infini would jointly pursue legal action with law enforcement. They received a 20% reward offer from the company.
Infini suffered a complete loss of its customer funds through a cyberattack just after it celebrated achieving $50 million in total value locked. CertiK became the first company to notice irregular operations when it found unauthorized transactions flowing from an Infini smart contract on Ethereum on February 24.
A hacker got unauthorized access to a compromised account and transferred 49.5 million USDC from it. The hacked funds became DAI tokens which bought 17,696 ETH during the purchase. According to Lookonchain analytics data, the hacker transferred ETH to another fresh wallet.
Cyvers found that a former developer who retained admin access ran the smart contract exploit. Three months after the completion of their security responsibilities, the developer drained money into a wallet connected to Tornado Cash.
Infini experienced a theft of private keys while different crypto hacks targeted weak wallet safeguards during this same period. Despite losing most of its customer funds Infini’s co-founder promised users a financial refund. The organization did not state when it would begin returning money to its users.
Infini shows its willingness to talk with the thief in hopes of getting the stolen money back partly while minimizing legal fights. The hacker has not made any public statements after receiving the offer.
