In October, Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, will meet with Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, to talk about how blockchain technology could change the world’s economic, political, and social systems.
According to an interview Hoskinson gave to Analyst, the meeting is set to happen on October 19 and will take place during the Tech Forum Argentina. Hoskinson wants to look into blockchain’s role in Argentina’s economy.
“It’s not a Cardano only conversation, there’s a whole family of technologies.”
Cardano Discusses Blockchain With Milei
He wants to find out if a central bank digital currency (CBDC) could be made and how Argentina’s relationships can help it rebuild its economy. In current talks with Milei’s government, he said, the future of blockchain and its uses in Argentina have already been talked about.
Hoskinson called Milei a “Austrian” and pointed out that the president shared some cryptocurrency beliefs, such as his support for private institutions and free markets and his desire to get rid of currencies that are controlled by the government.
“He does believe in what Ludwig von Mises believes and Murray Rothbard, and so philosophically, politically, he’s much more aligned with the ethos of the cryptocurrency industry.”
Cardano has had a strong footprint in Argentina since the beginning, and key partnerships have helped the country adopt blockchain technology. The Cardano Foundation signed a new deal in June 2024 to improve the use of blockchain in the area. Hoskinson also talked about Cardano’s history in Argentina, pointing out that AtixLabs, one of the first companies to work on Cardano, was based there.
Milei, who is known for supporting cryptocurrencies, has publicly backed Cardano by sharing material on social media that is related to the cryptocurrency. He stated that he would be at the Tech Forum Argentina in an X (formerly Twitter) post on September 17.
Cardano is moving toward the Voltaire era, which is the last part of its roadmap and is all about decentralized government. This news comes at the right time. On September 1, Cardano had its first hard fork since Voltaire’s time, which made community-run government possible. ADA on-chain vote features will be approved by people who own ADA in a final constitution that should be ready by December.
“The whole point of an onchain government is to invite controversy. It’s an effective and efficient system if it can handle a plurality of ideas, some insane and some reasonable, and converge to good ideas on an ongoing basis.”
